In the 1960s, 8 women founded the Les Petite Cheres Social Club in Memphis, TN. My grandmother was one of the founding members. Their mission was to serve the community and through this they served with the NAACP, they fed the sanitation strikers in 1968, and they donated to homeless shelters throughout the city. What I remember most about the club were the trips that took every single year. They traveled a lot. It was in the dining room that they met frequently for meeting and planning. Now their story is able to come alive in the space where those ideas were once birthed. I invite you to join this….as this story unfolds through a collection of art about the ladies of Les Petite Cheres.
